Mastery for me this past few weeks was making new connections with individuals. I got the opportunity to meet with a local library who is working on a program for adults with disabilities. This connection is just what I hoped for. Having opportunities for those that are 18 and over. For those who desire to have fun and make connections. Stay tuned as we have further discussions about making these opportunities a reality for many.
And then another opportunity arose. I was able to return to the school that I had worked at to be of support to a senior class of students with disabilities. A Place 2B ME has been provided with the freedom of sharing to help others create art with bottle caps! HOW FUN!! To see the interest in the activity, the completion of work skills, working on fine motor hand skills, working on visual attention and social skills while in the process of working on the task presented was a delight. We started this process by sorting LOTS of bottle caps…I mean LOTS!! There were bottle caps of many sizes, shapes and colors. The students needed to sort by placing into the correct container. They also needed to use problem solving skills throughout. What if the color was not the same? What if they aren’t the same shape? “What if” scenarios were presented many times. A few even wanted to be sorting 2 different colors at the same time. This presented challenges and also worked on developing pride and a sense of accomplishment. WOW!! The students did great, and we are looking forward to the next visit from A Place 2B ME to continue this process of art. Stay tuned everyone. There is lots of mastery happening!!
Remember mastery can be presented and accomplished in many different ways. For us in this process, mastery was accomplished by getting started, being engaged and participating. Mastery of using our dexterity, knowledge, and workmanship to name a few. More chances of mastery when we meet again!
